Cecil Airport & Spaceport (VQQ)

This is professional work responsible for the certification, and the day-to-day operations of Cecil Spaceport. The Managing Director of Cecil Spaceport will direct the spaceport infrastructure, establish operational protocols, and manage the development of telemetry and range safety. Position is responsible for coordinating all internal and external work resources and provides leadership and manages all associated resources deemed necessary and appropriate for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the spaceport. Makes appropriate independent decisions as requested and represents the Director, in his/her absence. The work requires seasoned knowledge of management and general airport aviation management principles gained through education, training and substantial job experience. Directs and supervises the work of subordinates in the department. Position contacts require skills in understanding and influencing people and are important in leading, coordinating the administrative functions of the airport and in representing the airport within the community. The work is performed following clearly defined management principles and policies and involves the frequent use of judgement in the search for effective solutions to issues as they arise. The work is performed in an office environment and involves the use of computers and standard office equipment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Be a spaceport/airport ambassador and general aviation team member.
  • Manages a multi-million-dollar cost center O&M, small capital and working through the Airport and Spaceport Director the capital budget.
  • Manages operational and facility contracts.
  • Manages the established spaceport strategic direction, priorities, objectives, vision, and mission.
  • Ensures Compliance with FAA Part 420 and 433 spaceport licensing requirements.
  • Instills teamwork through leadership.
  • Manages the airport staff in daily spaceport operations to ensure safe and effective services are provided to customer, tenants and operators of Cecil Spaceport.
  • Coordinates with high level Federal, State, and Local governmental officials.
  • Collaborates with the spaceport industry.
  • Conducts tenant and community meetings. 
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge in managing resources and analyzing spaceport trends
  • Detailed knowledge of the spaceport industry.
  • Must have demonstrated track record of managing and developing a commercial horizontal spaceport.
  • Ability to administer airport operating, small capital budget and contract management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage and ensure successful coordination of numerous projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of the civil aviation, aerospace and aero-industrial industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Power Point), including social media applications and web-based research.
  • Must have experience in Program Management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse personalities and employee populations.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, think creatively in the improvement of processes and drive results.
  • Interpersonal, critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability.

Required Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Spaceflight Operations, Business Management, Airport Aviation Management, Aerospace Administration, Spaceport, or a closely related field and

Five (5) years’ experience in spaceport management.

 

Preferred Education & Experience

Master’s degree in Aeronautical Science, Business Management, Airport Aviation Management, Aerospace Administration, Spaceport, or a closely related field

Licenses & Certifications

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge

Must be a US citizen

Florida Class E Driver’s License may be required and must be maintained.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a work station for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 15 pounds.

Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
